Szeged – Anna Thermal Bath

Szeged is the third most populated city in Hungary, located in the Southern Great Plain, which is famous for the university, and as a cultural and sport center, but it also can be proud of the two old and wonderful baths that provides refreshing experience for both locals and guests from abroad. Some people call Szeged as the „city of sunshine”, because one of its special features is that on this point of the country the number of sunny hours exceeds the national average. The Napfényfürdő Aquapolis Szeged (Sunshine Bath Auapolis Szeged) received its name after this phenomenon. It is the largest adventure water park in the area, and which enjoys widespread popularity among the locals and tourists as well.

On the other side of RiverTisza, which runs through the city, we can find the other popular spa facility of Szeged, the Anna Thermal Bath, built in the late 1800s, which is one of the oldest spas in the country.

The more than 120 years old spa building is also called as the „Bath Palace of Szeged”. This is not surprising, because it takes place in a beautiful, renovated monument. At the beginning, it was operating as a place of hygienical bathing, which obtained the water from the public utility network, and the water was heated by steam boilers. However, in 1927 a source of hot water was found in Szeged during an exploration, and from that time the spa nourishes its pools from this thermal spring. It only revealed 2 years later that the precious water – at a temperature of 58 ° C – , bursting to the surface from a depth of almost 1000 meters has a healing power, so from 1938 the Anna Thermal Bath was added to the list of medicinal spas in Hungary.

By preserving the style elements, the spa was completely renovated in 2004, which opens into 2 separete wings, enclosing an magnificent inner courtyard that can be an excellent place for sunbathing, in good weather. In the right wing there is a thermal spa supplied with healing basins, pools serving the recreation of guests. The other wing includes a wellness department, which is supplied with a sauna world and different exprience elements. In addition, a medical center has also been built next to the spa, where physio-, and balneotherapy services are available.

The thermal water contains a great amount of minerals, and thanks to the content of the water many people have already experienced the blessing and healing effect of it. The medicinal water is recommended for musculoskeletal and respiratory diseases, for different dermatological and gynecological complaints, as well as in the cases of rehabilitations after accidents and surgeries. Besides, the „treausre of Anna-well” also can be consumed internally, as a drinking cure, by which various gastrointestinal complaints can be remedied, and it is also advised for patients struggling with kidney stone. The Anna-well can be found in the city center, near the original exploration place of the water spring, where we may fill our bottle with the precious water.
